The Kota Tinggi Waterfalls

Water Source : River
Accessibility : Public playground
Waterfall profile : One cascade
15 kilometers from Kota Tinggi, Johore State, Malaysia

The place

The Kota Tinggi park was made famous by the river and the waterfall. It is the focal point of the days outing. This is one waterfall that is southernmost and near to urban Singapore. Over the years and growing demands, the Park area was upgraded continuously. To us northerners, we could hardly recognize the place as a forest park. It is as crowded and developed as any theme park that we see in urban Kuala Lumpur.

The area of the park itself is relatively small by our standard. It has a gigantic car park, almost half the area of the park. From the car park to the main waterfall area is a beeline line along the bank of the river. This distance is approximately just below a kilometer.

All the way paved and on the left, the food outlets and stall, on the right, the river itself. There are railing along the banks and the river itself is kept free of rubbish. Picnickers would look for any openings where the water flows and enjoy great outdoor nature in that spot. Water in the stream is hardly more than half meter.

I think the best part of the trip, is to witness an authentic waterfall. made by nature. Of course, the river that flows down from the low hills of Muntahak 634m high cannot be big. Likewise the volume of water through the waterfall was not dramatic at the time this picture was taken.

I would recommend!

This is a good place to bring your children out for the weekends. More appropriate for most urban family who could not find time for more exotic destination. As for plans of having picnic, just have something very simple. Problem! You could not find suitable place to enjoy that day off and justifying the long journey here. Of course within that small confine and the large crowd, cannot expect a very conducive ambience. I only wish that I could say something more cheerful.

How to get there

The road to Kota Tinggi Town from the expressway is very good. Mono-carriage but absolutely straight. With roads in Johore, do expect that long undulations. From the town of Kulai, turn into Highway 94. Cannot remember, must be around 48 kilometers. After arriving in Kota Tinggi town, fairly large, do not continue on the trunk to the East Coast.

Instead look for a road branching north to reach the waterfall.

The area was formerly famous for its iron mines. Nothing is mentioned but you will see traces at the waterfall area. I mention this, there was a small settlement of Lombong in that vicinity
